
When I first learned to be a leader, I searched for information that would help me overcome my insecurities and doubts. I tried Tom Peters for a season, Ducker’s Principles, Welch’s Six Commandments, and George’s Authentic Leadership, but what helped me the most was Quint Studer. Quint was the first person I studied who came out of the healthcare sector and was vulnerable to share who he was. I started to watch his every move. Over three decades, he changed so many things!
Others within the organization were encouraged to attend Quint’s classes on leadership, including his four questions to ask a new employee, and his belief that we must build foundational pillars that are clearly defined. I watched everything Quint did for decades and eventually we won many awards. Quint even handed us a few team awards at national conferences to celebrate the organization’s thriving culture and rock-solid pillars. I honestly did not know what a foundational pillar was until I met Quint.

I knew his books and used his “Hardwiring Excellence” as a canon piece of our leadership suite at each of the companies I worked!
Most recently, I started to spend some time in Quint’s Pensacola, Florida hometown and became great friends with some of his mentees right there! For example, the new mayor, DC Reeves is a “Studerion,” who I believe can transform many things.
Then a group of industry peers went to Quint to address how the nursing home industry rebounds from COVID. This amazing group of HR leaders formed a Roundtable to speed up our recovery from PTSD, and Quint engaged with them to bring back his magic!
The roundtable, supported by Quint and Dan Collard, his long-time co-writer, released a great refresher course on how to get it all back! The culture we crave – we can get it back!

Over the past two months, I am totally refreshed and fired up about this refresher course with many new tools!
Most recently, Quint was asked to speak at our leadership conference last month and he crushed it! We got our speaker scores back and we finally reached “Studerion” levels, which gave me the chills that evening. I am so glad we put Quint top of mind again at Signature HealthCARE!
